I have always been the fat girl in school and at the age of 15, I was weighing in at 200lbs! I decided to see what my doctor could do to help me. Prescription drugs became my first tool to assist with my weight loss. I practically stopped eating and lost a lot of weight in very little time. Of course, I was happy that I looked good in High school but I still didn't know how to live a healthy lifestyle. Once I got to college the weight started to creep up again until I was at my biggest of 220lbs. I tried several crash diets and bought the products that were advertised on TV. Needless to say, that failed! I wish I knew then what I know now.
In the summer of 2002, I decided I had enough of being fat and I wasn't going to accept myself the way I was. I joined a support group that teaches you about healthy eating and by the fall I had lost my first 20lbs I then decided it was time for me to join a gym and hire a personal trainer. When I first met my personal trainer he asked me a series of questions and one of them was 'what's your goal' I said to him 'I want to look hot' he smiled back at me probably thinking 'that's going to be a challenge', but I was determined and motivated to reach that goal.
For the past 5 years I've been watching my body transform and by January 2007, I needed a bigger and more challenging goal than just fitting into a cute bikini. I decided I wanted to compete in my first figure competition (November 2008), hoping to get myself in the best shape of my life. I have started training seriously since June 2007 and can't wait to step on that stage.
The best advice I can give is not to give up and be patient. Whenever I felt down and worried that I would never achieve my goal, a good friend a mine would ask me the same question over and over 'How bad do you want this?'
What I ate
Eating 6 meals a day was hard at the beginning I never thought that I needed to eat to lose weight. I always made sure I had lean proteins, good carbs, fruits and vegetables in my day and drank my gallon of water. I did allow myself a cheat day once a week, now dieting for this competition I only get a cheat meal and I look forward to that meal to keep me sane.

Hi Nancy
Awesome to see you on here! ive read over your posts and understand motivation can sometimes wane. I set small (tiny tiny) goals as motivation for each week. It sounds crazy but they keep me on track..for ex. my workouts for leg day are 'sweaty' -lol - so I wear a bra top to the GYM those days-I wana look and feel great - makes my workouts even better, so Im motivated to eat clean, not eat before bed to keep my abs poping for 'bra top days'. I plan 'beach' vacations every 3-4 mo, so I HAVE to stay lean for that !! HAHAHAHA.... and I gotta say, the look on my boyfriends face when he sees me- makes every ab workout worth the pain. What little things make you say to your self "I wana look mybest"? I also have a mantra..it used to be "You did NOT disappoint yourself today" (this one still gets me going, makes me proud and reminds me how far Ive come-I say it with each AB rep at the end of my workout) but now my NEW YEARS MANTRA "You know what your capable of"- so no excuse to do less weight, less reps or less workouts..because I KNOW I CAN RIP IT UP!!! Warm thoughts Nancy!!! |
